Open the lobby
In Quizzes, press Host on a quiz, or Host this quiz in the editor. Choose the game’s settings, then press Open the lobby:
- Pacing: I move the game on lets you decide when each question comes; Automatic moves on by itself, and you can still skip or pause.
- Showing the answer: When time is up runs each question to the end of its countdown; When everyone has answered shows the answer as soon as every player has answered. Players who are away don’t hold it up.
- Images: Smooth or Protected. See Images and video clips.
- Streak bonus: the 3rd and 4th right answers in a row earn 10% more points, and the 5th and every one after it 20% more.
- Late joining: players can still join after the game starts, until the last question.
- How many people: about how many people will play, up to the player limit. It lets TarmTorb make sure there’s room for everyone, and you need it to schedule a game.
- Player limit: leave it empty for the most your team allows. A game of more than 20 players needs an Event Pass, and the Studio says which one it will use.
- Nicknames: let players choose, or give everyone a friendly generated name.
- Shuffle the questions: a new order for this game. Info slides stay where they are.
- Winners to reveal: how many players the podium reveals at the end, one at a time: from 1 to 10, or 3 if you leave it.
Schedule a game ahead
To share the PIN before the day, for example in an invitation or a LINE group, choose Later under When, pick the date and the hour it Starts between (in Thailand’s time), choose about How many people will play, and press Schedule the game. The game starts some time in the 6 hours from then, for example between 10:00 and 16:00, so you don’t have to know the exact time. You can schedule a game up to 90 days ahead. Scheduling is best for events: knowing ahead how many people will play lets TarmTorb make sure there’s room for everyone.
Room for everyone. A scheduled game keeps its room on the servers during its range. A game hosted now, or opened before or after its range, goes ahead if the servers have room for it then, and the Studio says how many people there’s room for before you choose. For a big game, schedule it at least 5 days ahead: that leaves time to make a server ready for it. Games with an Event Pass come first: a free game takes the room they leave, so when the servers are busy, it may have to wait, even when it’s scheduled.
The game’s page shows its PIN, QR code and link straight away, with LINE’s Share button. You find it again under Upcoming in Games. Players who open the link early see the range the game starts in, and can join as soon as you open the lobby.
- Keep editing the quiz. The game takes the quiz and your brand as they are when you open the lobby. If something in the quiz needs fixing then, the page says what, with links to the questions.
- Open the lobby with Open the lobby now on the game’s page whenever you’re ready: before the range, or during it. A game that needs your Event Pass for its time can use it from 6 hours before its range. The link works until a day after the range starts, and you can open the lobby until then; after that the game shows as missed.
- Change moves the game to another range or changes its settings. The PIN stays the same.
- Cancel the game deletes it. Players with its link see that it has ended.
Bring players in
The console shows the game’s PIN, a QR code and a link. Players open play.tarmtorb.com on their phone and type the PIN, scan the code, or tap the link. LINE’s Share button sends the link to a LINE group. See Joining a game for what players see.
The big screen
Open the big screen opens the presenter screen in a new window, for a projector or a TV: the PIN and QR code while players join, then each question, the answers and the leaderboard, and at the end the winners on the podium. Press Full screen on it. You can open and close it at any time; the game doesn’t depend on it, because phones show everything too.
On the big screen, the space bar or → moves on, P pauses, and M turns the music on or off.
The big screen plays music in the lobby and while players answer, and sounds when the answers are revealed. Browsers play sound only after a click on the page: if the big screen shows Click to turn on sound, click it. The music and speaker buttons next to Full screen turn the music and the sounds off.
Run the game
- Press Start the game once everyone is in.
- Each question shows on its own for a moment, then its answers appear and the time starts.
- The console and the big screen count the answers as they come in. The answer is revealed when the time is up, even if everyone has already answered, so the countdown is always right. With When everyone has answered, it’s revealed as soon as every player has. Reveal the answer shows it sooner.
- Then Show the leaderboard, and Next question.
- After the last question, Show the winners. The podium starts with every place a mystery, and you reveal them one at a time, from the last of the winners up: Reveal 3rd place, Reveal 2nd place, then Reveal the winner, who comes after a drumroll. Then Finish.
Each phone shows its player’s own result once the podium reaches them; players below the winners see theirs once the winner is out. In an automatic game, the places come out one by one by themselves. If you don’t press Finish, the game finishes by itself once the podium has been up for an hour.
You can Pause at any time, and End the game early: scores so far are kept.
Anyone on your team with the Host role can open the same console from Games, as a co-host. The console keeps your screen on while a game runs.
When the game ends, the console takes you to its results: see Results and reports.
